Este es un blog para bajar esa musica excelente de la historia del rock que desgraciadamente se ha ido olvidando con el paso del tiempo.GARAGE BEAT PSYCHEDELYC(PSICODELIA). This is a blog to download that excelent and unhappily forgotten music of the rock history.GARAGE BEAT. 'The New Colony Six were never big hitmakers (out of 10 charted pop hits, only two made the Top Forty), and many music fans born after the early 60s may never have heard of them, but they are perhaps the most underappreciated American pop group of the late 1960s.
Click to expand.I'm not sure about the band - but certainly the city. I once spotted a New Colony Six 45 on Sentar when the label was distributed by Cameo/Parkway, and the producer listed was one Ron Malo who was credited as an 'A & R Man' on the original U.S.A. Records 45 of The Buckinghams' 'Kind Of A Drag' - and that label was also based out of Chicago (the city).Maybe it's one of those 'Six Degrees Of - ' situations: The New Colony Six' producer was Ron Malo - who was A & R man for The Buckinghams - who later went to Columbia - where they were at first produced by James William Guercio - who was the first producer for Chicago (the band). And I've yet to see either of the two NCS 45's on Mercury that I know of ('I Will Always Think About You' and 'Things I'd Like To Say') in the form of pressings by Columbia.
I don't know about Chicago, other than they were a Chicago area band ( The first time I heard them was on WLS ) but I can link them with the Association. Terry Kirkman of the Association, produced the song 'Barbara, I Love You' and I don't know what else of theirs. As to the mastering, Im certain it is a direct transfer of the Japanese released CD 'Best Of New Colony Six' It has the same track listing. I wrote to one of the NCS, and asked why the Mercury Recordings had never been released. He wrote me back and said that they would never see US release. Fortunately, they finally did get 'Breakthrough' released with 'Hang On Sloopy' on it. OK, as I said in the other thread.
I just got 'Best Of New Colony Six', which has the 'Attacking A Straw Man' and 'Revelations' LP covers for it's cover. It is virtually a 2-Fer disc. Both albums intact. It's OOP but it was a Mercury release PHCR-1436.A few people have said that 'I Could Never Lie To You' on this version is an 'Alternate' version previously unreleased. If you mean to CD. However, I have BOTH albums on vinyl (Signed even!), and the one on this PHCR-1436 is the same as on the vinyl album. If anyone remembers the songs when originally aired, they will remember Ronnie's voice being much more 'up front' than on the Rhino release.
I originally ripped mine from the vinyl prior to the Rhino release and was very dissapointed particularly with this song. If there is an 'Alternate' it should be called the one on the Rhino.I doubt there are many other rabid fans of these songs, but they were VERY important to me back then and still are. (Boy, does that say something sad about MY history huh?)I tried to get these reissued years ago and Ronnie steered me to Pete Wright, who was kinda their manager. Pete had the masters. When I talked to him, he told me that he last saw them somewhere at the bottom of his closet and didn't exactly know where they were. I was never able to get him to find them, and after several tries I finally gave up. I was VERY surprised to find their last hit, 'Long Time To Be Alone' from 1971 on the Rhino release because supposedly Pete had the only tapes from that.
It was done at a local studio here in Chicago that no longer exsied at the time, so either someone got to Pete and he finally dug them up, or an alternate set was discovered. If this new CD is simply a repack of the PHCR-1436, get it. You WON'T be disappointed! The EL New Colony Six CD is now set for September 26, 2005 UK release.New Colony Six archivist Jerry Schollenberger produced the EL CD and also contributed liner notes and previously unpublished photos.Jerry did a great job on COLONIZED! BEST OF THE NEW COLONY SIX (Rhino CD and Cassette, 1993), THE NEW COLONY SIX: AT THE RIVER'S EDGE (Sundazed CD and LP, 1993), THE NEW COLONY SIX: FOUR BY SIX (Sundazed EP, 1993), THE NEW COLONY SIX: COLONIZATION (Sundazed CD, 1994) and THE NEW COLONY SIX: BREAKTHROUGH (Sundazed CD and LP, 2002).Jerry even produced the Ronnie Rice: Refried Rice CD for Pete Wright's SunLight label in 1997.I bought the BEST OF NEW COLONY SIX (Japan Mercury) CD in 1996 for $13.99 at Tower records (Clark Street) in Chicago.
Jerry Schollenberger is probably credited in the Japanese language liner notes!
